Malaysia’s anti-corruption agency is preparing charges against two former top military commanders linked to defence procurement contracts in a high-profile case involving alleged bribery and misuse of public funds. The action marks a significant escalation in enforcement against senior defence officials.
Ex-Military Commanders to Face Corruption, Abuse-of-Power Charges
Former army chief Hafizuddiean Jantan and his wife, Salwani Anuar, face money-laundering charges involving about RM2.1 million, while ex-defence forces leader Mohamad Nizam Jaafar is to be charged with abuse of power and criminal breach of trust.
The government responded by suspending related defence procurement contracts and pledging reforms to boost transparency and oversight of defence spending.
