KOTA BHARU, Kelantan – An 89-year-old woman, Fatimah Mat Said, who had poor eyesight but remained mobile, tragically died along with her 70 pet cats and five stray dogs when her house on Jalan Tok Guru was engulfed in flames on Jan. 25. Her adoptive daughter, Norhaeda Azahari, 51, received a call around 6pm and rushed home to find the blaze already raging. Witnesses reported seeing Fatimah waving and shouting for help before she fell to a lower section of the house.
Woman Perishes
Firefighters from Kota Bharu station arrived minutes after a 5:58pm emergency call, but the 60×60 sq ft house was 98 per cent destroyed. Fatimah’s body was recovered around 8:39pm. The cause of the fire and total losses remain under investigation.
