A new Economist/YouGov poll shows President Donald Trump’s net approval rating among independents has plunged to a record low of -40, the weakest across both his terms.
Trump’s Approval Hits Record Low
Nationally, Trump’s approval stands at 39% with 57% disapproval, while independents give him just 27% approval against 67% disapproval. Analysts note this marks a steep drop from last week’s -31 net approval.
The poll surveyed 1,684 adults between January 23–26. Critics warn the decline could hurt Trump in competitive races as independents often decide outcomes. Trump dismissed the findings on Truth Social, calling them “fake polls” and accusing the media of bias.
