Top officials of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have resigned from the executive committee after a growing scandal involving alleged use of falsified documents to naturalise players, prompting the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to launch a formal review of the association’s management and processes.

The controversy stems from allegations that Malaysian teams fielded players with improperly processed documentation in an Asian Cup qualifier, provoking widespread public backlash and disciplinary action from FIFA, including fines and suspensions.
The AFC review aims to benchmark FAM’s governance against modern standards, with temporary administrative control given to the secretary-general while investigations continue.
