Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has defended his political role as one rooted in service rather than ambition, saying he remains an MP to fulfil an amanah to the people. In a reflective post, Rafizi said he is “easily contented” and not driven by power, fame or position, adding that his views on policy and politics are part of doing his job well and making a difference.
Politics
Rafizi contrasted his outlook with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whom he accused of being singularly focused on attaining the premiership. He said he would be happy to retire quietly when the time comes, without burdens tied to status or legacy.
Emphasising faith, Rafizi said public service should be a modest contribution and an investment for the akhirat, not a claim that society owes politicians anything.
