KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Defense Minister Adly Zahari has defended the gesture of senior Armed Forces Malaysia (ATM) leaders bowing and kissing the hand of ministers, saying it should not be misinterpreted as diminishing the institution. He stressed the act was a form of respect, not subservience, during parliamentary debate on Thursday.

Adly rebuked Ketereh MP Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor, who criticized the practice after a video of ATM leaders greeting Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin went viral. Adly emphasized that the sacrifices of defense personnel remain unquestioned, and such gestures should not be politicized or seen negatively.
