Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming’s use of Islamic phrases during his winding-up speech sparked a heated exchange in Parliament last week. PAS MP Siti Zailah Yusoff (PN-Rantau Panjang) questioned whether Nga was “a believer,” warning that such usage could “confuse Muslims” and touch on sensitive 3R issues.

Arabic phrases

Nga had earlier expressed gratitude over his ministry’s success in reviving 40,000 units of sick PR1MA housing projects, including the last abandoned site in Bukit Katil, Malacca. The question is what is the meaning of these words? He used sujud syukur, Alhamdulillah.” All used by Muslims on a daily basis.

“Are you a believer of Allah? We don’t want this word to be toyed around with. I don’t mind if YB is a Muslim, I fear this will confuse other Muslims.” – Siti Zailah Yusoff
