Malaysia’s airports have seen a significant increase in passenger traffic, with Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Langkawi, Penang and Kuching all reporting strong growth in arrivals and departures as travel demand continues to build in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), according to operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
Malaysia airport passenger numbers climb, boosting tourism outlook before VM2026
KLIA’s traffic has climbed sharply with new international connections, including direct flights from Hangzhou and expanded services to Singapore, Cebu and Jakarta, while regional airports also reported double-digit year-on-year increases in passenger numbers.
MAHB said it remains focused on strengthening operational resilience and enhancing connectivity as tourism continues to recover, and that the trend underscores growing confidence in Malaysia’s travel and tourism sector ahead of the VM2026 promotional year.
