Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong says the next general election in Peninsular Malaysia will be decided by about 50 swing seats. Citing GE15 results, Liew noted Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 71 seats, Barisan Nasional (BN) 23, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) 71 in mostly three-cornered fights. If PH and BN join forces against PN in straight contests, he estimates PH and PN each have around 45 “safe” seats while BN holds over 20. With reduced internal competition, Liew believes PH and BN would retain their current strongholds, leaving the true battle in marginal constituencies that could determine federal power.
