Proposal to abolish pension for new civil servants not to victimise Malays – PM Anwar

The government denies claims that the move to the abolish pension scheme for new civil servants would target Malays, citing financial sustainability concerns. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated the proposal, studied since the 90s, aims to prevent bankruptcy and future financial issues. He criticized opposition parties for playing on religious sentiments and emphasized that developed nations have already transitioned away from pension systems.

Abolish pension

Anwar noted that politicians would also be affected by the change and assured existing civil servants that their pension status would remain unaffected. Additionally, the government pledged to address civil servants’ remuneration, recognizing the need for salary adjustments after 12 years.
