SINGAPORE – Artificial intelligence and video analytics are transforming Singapore’s road maintenance, with potholes reduced by a third since 2022, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said.
The Road Maintenance Management System, piloted in the southwest since June, uses vehicle-mounted cameras and AI to identify cracks, damaged pavements, and potholes in real time.

Detected defects are flagged on a central platform, enabling teams to be dispatched immediately via a mobile app. Previously, inspections were done manually by 32 officers, but AI has cut the team size to 12.
LTA reported that potholes detected dropped from 4,517 in 2022 to 3,013 in 2024, crediting preventive maintenance and AI for improved efficiency.
