On 31 December 2025, customs officers at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Plaisance seized 18 kilograms of cannabis, valued at Rs 22.4 million. The drugs were concealed in multiple packages within the luggage of a 33-year-old American woman, who was intercepted by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) in collaboration with the airport’s Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU).

The suspect was immediately arrested and detained on charges of drug importation. Following a controlled delivery operation conducted by ADSU, two Mauritian nationals were later apprehended when they attempted to collect the parcels. They are now under investigation for drug trafficking. The inquiry is ongoing.
