Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has raised the issue of a RM214.2 million fiber optic contract awarded Opcom Cables Sdn Bhd. Anwar says the company is linked to former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. This in his defense against Mahathir’s defamation lawsuits filed against him.

Anwar Vs Mahathir

Anwar’s defense, filed in the Shah Alam High Court, justifies the contract award to Opcom Cables Sdn Bhd. He alleges that Mahathir’s sons and wife held director positions in the company during Mahathir’s tenure as Prime Minister and Minister of Defense.

Fiber Optic Contract

Anwar further claims that Mahathir controlled MOF Inc during his term, and that Mahathir’s family benefited from other financial assistance. Anwar argues that the defamation lawsuits filed by Mahathir are malicious and intended to weaken Anwar’s credibility as Prime Minister.
