On March 15, 2025, at Mara’s 59th Anniversary event in Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim staunchly defended the Urban Renewal Act (URA), a policy aimed at uplifting the urban poor, primarily Malays, by improving living conditions. He rebuked the opposition, particularly PAS Youth, for opposing the URA and threatening protests, accusing them of misleading the public with claims of “modern colonialism” and displacement of poor Malays.
Warnings
Anwar criticized Malay opposition figures from PAS and other Islamic parties for lacking constructive solutions and sabotaging efforts to help Malays, calling them “lost” and “misleading.” He warns them not to sabotage the project. “If you try to disrupt us, if you mobilise a rally, we can fill a stadium to defend this policy to help the Malays,” he said. “But do not sabotage our efforts,” Anwar added.
