Kuala Lumpur: The Black Flag movement protesters were shocked when police swiftly fined them during the weekend.
They were participating in an anti-government rally demanding the government to quit for alleged failures in handling COVID-19.
Now they say the police is practising a double standard. They were issued fines only hours after the protest. But they question why officials are only fined weeks after SOP breaches.
“The police applied a different standard than in similar cases involving ministers and other VIPs,” says a member of the movement.
The protest took place Saturday at the Dataran Merdeka. Three people from the organization were each fined RM2,000 (US$475) Sunday.
The protester says police questioned them for three hours Sunday morning at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
