A massive winter storm has brought blizzard conditions to the Northeast, prompting New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to declare a state of emergency and impose a travel ban from Sunday night through Monday noon.
Blizzard Shuts Down NYC
The National Weather Service warned of up to 20–25 inches of snow across New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Airlines canceled over 3,000 flights and delayed more than 22,000, with LaGuardia and JFK hardest hit.
Rail services were suspended, schools closed, and power outages spread across New Jersey. National Guard troops were activated as states braced for one of the region’s worst blizzards.
