Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said there is still time to change the BN Melaka candidate line-up for the coming state election, following a walkout by MCA leaders at the coalition’s candidate announcement.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday (Oct 25), Zahid said he had not yet signed the letters of endorsement for the candidates, and that leaders of Barisan Nasional’s component parties could still discuss the list.
He was speaking at a press conference in Bagan Datuk after flagging off the Bagan Datuk District Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge Run.
MCA Walkout at Candidate Announcement
Zahid’s remarks came a day after MCA leaders walked out of Barisan’s candidate announcement programme at the Melaka International Trade Centre on Saturday (Oct 24).
According to The Star, the walkout followed the allocation of seats previously contested by MCA to other parties.
Zahid acknowledged that MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had been caught by surprise at the announcement. He said this happened because the secretariat had not informed Wee about the candidate announcement.
Talks on BN Melaka Candidate Line-Up Before Oct 31
Zahid said the dispute would be settled through discussions among the parties within the coming week.
“We will resolve this issue. We will have discussions before Oct 31,” he said.
He added that he would leave the matter to Melaka Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof, saying Ab Rauf may already have discussed matters with MCA leaders.
Zahid did not say which seats or candidates could be affected by any changes.
