MELAKA, Oct 25, 2026 – MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong walked out of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate announcement ceremony for the Melaka state election last night following a dispute over seat allocations.
The incident took place at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), where BN unveiled its candidates ahead of the polls. Wee said MCA was dissatisfied with the seats allocated to the party and had requested further discussions before any decision was finalised.

According to him, the allocation was confirmed without MCA’s agreement, prompting the party to reject the candidate announcement.
Wee stressed that his decision to leave the event was not driven by personal dissatisfaction but by the need to defend MCA’s rights and dignity as a BN component party.
He also urged BN’s central leadership to intervene and resolve the deadlock, insisting that candidate selections should be made through mutual consultation among coalition partners before the election.
