A group of businessmen, including a Datuk, were allegedly deceived by a company director who claimed to establish a new political party called Barisan Penyatuan Nasional (BPN) for the 15th General Election. The victims claimed to have lost RM32 million in contributions to the party’s establishment fund and fell victim to investment frauds and loan scams from the same individual.
Businessmen at a loss
The alleged fraud affected at least 160 candidates, with losses amounting to at least RM200,000 per person. Several victims have come forward to lodge police reports, expressing their hope for further investigations to prevent others from falling victim to similar scams.
