Kuala Lumpur: China is making a big fuss that the South China Sea is not shown on an Olympic map.
Beijing is also showing anger that Taiwan is also not shown on the map. The map was on display during the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
For that matter, the Chinese consulate in New York is criticizing NBC Universal for displaying the map, saying it is incomplete.
This has “hurt the dignity and emotions of the Chinese people,” Reuters reports.
“We urge NBC to recognise the serious nature of this problem and take measures to correct the error,” the post states.
The Global Times newspaper, a pro-China paper, also expresses its displeasure at the map.
The world does not recognise China as the ‘owner’ of the South China Sea nor of Taiwan.
International laws state that countries bordering the vast disputed seas have the same right as China in the SCS.
