China has warned of retaliation if US President Donald Trump proceeds with his threat to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese imports by 1 November. Beijing condemned the move as “wilful” and reaffirmed its readiness to defend its interests.
China Vowing Retaliation
The announcement triggered a sharp drop in global markets, with $2 trillion wiped off US stocks and Dow futures plunging. Trump later softened his tone, suggesting a deal was possible.
China’s rare-earth export controls, deemed legitimate by its commerce ministry, are central to the dispute. Analysts say Trump’s strategy may be aimed at forcing faster concessions through escalation, not outright confrontation.
