Authorities in Taiwan said that 71 Chinese aircraft had violated the island’s air defence identification zone in the previous day. They claimed this was a “provocation” caused by a new US bill intended to increase military assistance to Taipei. The incident took place on Monday.
Taiwan Furious at Chinese Incursion
According to the Taiwan Defense Ministry, the unofficial line separating the island from the mainland at sea was primarily crossed by fighter jets.
Taiwanese lawmakers were furious about the incident and charged Beijing with seeking to frighten Taiwanese citizens and damaging regional peace. China has denied any incursions.
