Chinese New Year reverse exodus traffic causes major congestion on highways

1 min read

Reverse exodus traffic built up on major Malaysian highways on Feb 18 as holidaymakers returned to Kuala Lumpur and surrounding urban centres following the end of Chinese New Year celebrations, according to the Malaysian Highway Authority. Congestion was reported on the North-South Expressway, NKVE and other key routes.

Holiday return traffic slows down travel on PLUS, NKVE and other major routes

Traffic flow was slow in several segments including Changkat Jering to Taiping Utara, Sungai Petani Selatan to Bertam, and Bangi to Kajang, while southbound lanes toward Singapore also saw heavy volumes, particularly near the Johor Causeway. Motorists were urged to plan ahead and practice safe driving.

Officials advised drivers to check real-time traffic updates through official apps and hotlines, maintain safe distances, and comply with highway authority instructions to avoid further delays during the post-holiday rush.
