DAP lawmaker Khoo Poay Tiong has urged the government to remove Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki. He said the Madani government will have to choose between its MPs who are against the MACC chief being in function, or choose Azam. There is no ultimatum cited by the MP except that it is a warning to PMX and co. He also warned that voters will punish Pakatan Harapan if Azam remains in office.
Choose Azam?
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, Khoo cited Bloomberg reports alleging MACC officials acted like a “corporate mafia” and that Azam held 17.7 million shares in breach of a 2024 government circular. He called for a royal commission of inquiry to restore MACC’s credibility and protect Malaysia’s rising Transparency International ranking. Azam has dismissed the allegations and filed a RM100 million defamation suit against Bloomberg.
