In Malaysia, the allocation of State Assembly seats for the upcoming State Elections in six states is being discussed. The ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, which includes DAP and opposition Barisan Nasional (BN) must agree on the principles and parameters for seats won by a particular party.
DAP’s calling for shared principles
The seats will be contested by the same party in the next State Elections. Negotiations will take place for the seats not won by either PH or BN. The DAP Secretary-General stressed that the decision must be based on shared principles, and any party’s desires or views should be referred to the Unity Government’s top leadership.
Anthony Loke emphasized the need to avoid politicizing the issue and for cooperation and understanding between PH and BN to avoid any seat overlap during the State Elections. Any decision made by the central leadership should be accepted with an open mind.
