KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11, 2026 — DAP should reconsider its position in the Cabinet if former prime minister Najib Razak is released without serving a sentence proportionate to his convictions, said party grassroots leader Ben Fong Kok Seng. The DAP Federal Territories treasurer noted that while delegates had previously mandated the leadership to remain in government until Parliament’s term ends, the party must not abandon its principles.

He stressed that constitutional processes, including the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s powers and the Pardons Board, must be respected, but political accountability remains paramount. Najib’s SRC International conviction was upheld by the Federal Court, while he also faces 25 charges linked to 1MDB, carrying an additional 15-year sentence.
Kok Seng warned that DAP’s credibility on clean governance and institutional reform would be undermined if it stayed in Cabinet after Najib’s release. He echoed deputy chairman Nga Kor Ming’s stance of resigning should Najib be freed without serving due punishment.
