In Shah Alam, DAP’s National Vice-Chairman Syahredzan Johan reaffirmed that the party has no intention of amending fundamental provisions of Malaysia’s Federal Constitution. He was responding to UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki who claimed DAP will not be able to amend the Federal Constitution involving the position of Islam and the Malays even if it has 148 seats in Parliament. Syahredzan emphasized DAP’s consistent commitment to upholding Islam as the federal religion, the special position of Malays and Sabah and Sarawak natives, Bahasa Melayu as the national language, and the constitutional monarchy. He urged all parties to cease baseless accusations, stressing DAP’s dedication to Malaysia’s democratic and constitutional framework.
