GEORGE TOWN – A domestic dispute involving a Penang state executive councillor and his wife has gone viral after both lodged police reports accusing each other of violence. The quarrel, which occurred on Feb 22 at their home, allegedly escalated into three separate scuffles. The exco member claimed his wife assaulted him and attempted to stab him with scissors, insisting he acted in self-defence. He also alleged she suffers from mental health issues and is undergoing psychiatric treatment.

His wife, however, accused him of punching and attempting to strangle her, also claiming self-defence and presenting bruises, including on her eye. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed the exco had informed him of the incident but said investigations should be left to authorities. Police have opened an investigation paper, though no arrests have been made.
