Dr Cindy Teh Shuan Ju (winner of the L’Oréal- UNESCO Young Talent Award) is a certified microbiologist and a member of the Academy Science Malaysia’s Young Scientist Network. Since 2013, she has also been a lecturer at the University of Malaya’s Faculty of Medicine. She was born and raised in Batu Pahat, Johor, and comes from a strict family.
As young child, Dr Cindy’s parents encouraged her to be an Arts and Music teacher citing the fact that she was gifted at both talents. But she was always inquisitive and she made a big jump from arts to science which led her to pursue STEM studies!

Since she joined the Department of Medical Microbiology, University of Malaya Faculty of Medicine on the research of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) superbug which is multidrug-resistant and does not respond to antibiotics administered used to kill them usually. Dr Cindy has identified the biomarkers for specific and rapid detection of the multidrug-resistance superbugs.
