Wedding Plans in Jeopardy as Engaged Couple Caught for Khalwat in Luxury Johor Bahru Condo
Story: A young couple’s plan to wed after Hari Raya Aidilfitri has hit a major legal snag after they were detained for suspected khalwat (close proximity) at a luxury condominium in Johor Bahru. The Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) conducted the raid at 2:30 AM on Monday following public complaints. After a 10-minute delay, a man in his 20s opened the door to find enforcement officers, who discovered a woman of the same age inside the studio unit.
Engaged Couple Khalwat
Both suspects, who work in Singapore, claimed they were engaged and that the woman was staying there because she was “unwell” and needed care. However, officers found the man’s clothing already settled in the wardrobe. JAINJ noted that the couple mistakenly believed the high-end security of a luxury condo would keep them off the authorities’ radar. The pair expressed deep regret following their arrest as they now face sharia legal action just months before their intended wedding date.
