PUTRAJAYA: A former vocational college student, previously sentenced to 15 years for causing the death of his ex-girlfriend, now faces a harsher punishment after the Court of Appeal convicted him of murder. The three-judge panel allowed the prosecution’s appeal, overturning the High Court’s earlier ruling, and ordered Ahmad Faisal Omar, 26, to serve 30 years in prison with 10 strokes of the cane.
Murder
Justice Datuk Azmi Ariffin said evidence clearly showed Faisal intended to kill, as he admitted to strangling 19-year-old Nuralya Damia Mohd Hairi, with pathology reports confirming strangulation as the cause of death. The court found no serious provocation, ruling his actions fell under Section 300(c) of the Penal Code.
The incident occurred in Port Dickson on May 24, 2018, following an argument in a car. Prosecutors proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, securing the murder conviction under Section 302.
