MIC Denies Applying to Join PN

1 min read

Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan revealed a letter from MIC president SA Vigneswaran, claiming it proved MIC had applied to join PN. However, MIC denied this, explaining the letter merely sought clarification on conditions should the party consider rejoining.

Takiyuddin Reveals MIC Letter to PN

A review of the letter supports MIC’s explanation but shows the party was seriously weighing the option. Vigneswaran wrote that MIC valued the opportunity to be reconsidered as a PN component and posed four questions: whether re-entry would be automatic, guarantees for Indian community representation, positions within PN, and other terms.

Takiyuddin said the letter was handed to then-chairman Muhyiddin Yassin in November 2025. PN later announced MIC’s acceptance in December, confirmed in March, but MIC repeatedly denied applying and has since decided to remain in BN. The episode highlights ongoing uncertainty over MIC’s political alignment and PN’s efforts to expand its coalition base.
