The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has attributed FIFA’s sanctions against seven heritage players to a technical error in document submission by its administrative staff. Secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman stressed the players are legitimate Malaysian citizens and confirmed FAM is awaiting FIFA’s full judgment before filing an appeal.

FIFA ruled that falsified documents were submitted to confirm player eligibility, leading to fines of CHF350,000 (RM1.8 million) for FAM and CHF2,000 for each player, alongside 12-month suspensions. The affected players include Gabriel Arrocha, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel. FAM’s acting president insisted procedures followed official guidelines and pledged transparency throughout the appeal process.
