In Kuala Terengganu, a construction worker, Mohd Affendi Awang, 42, received a historic sentence for khalwat (close proximity) offense, becoming the first to be caned in Terengganu. Shariah Judge Hamidi Shafie sentenced Mohd Affendi to four strokes of the cane and a RM3,000 fine, or six months in jail, for being with a woman who wasn’t his wife in a building undergoing renovation.
