New: First caning for KHALWAT

In Kuala Terengganu, a construction worker, Mohd Affendi Awang, 42, received a historic sentence for khalwat (close proximity) offense, becoming the first to be caned in Terengganu. Shariah Judge Hamidi Shafie sentenced Mohd Affendi to four strokes of the cane and a RM3,000 fine, or six months in jail, for being with a woman who wasn’t his wife in a building undergoing renovation.

This marked Mohd Affendi’s second offense, following a fine last year for a similar offense. The judgment aimed to serve as a deterrent, highlighting the stringent enforcement of Shariah laws in the state. This is the first caning in Terengganu!
