Form 2 Student Caught Stealing RM749 from Canteen 

A Form 2 male student at a boarding school in Jasin, Melaka, was caught on CCTV stealing money from the canteen’s daily sales on September 22. 

The incident was discovered when staff noticed that a package containing proceeds from afternoon food sales between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM had gone missing from beside the cash register.

Form 2 Student Admits Theft, RM31 Used to Repay Debt

Canteen operator Nur Liyana Abdul Khalid said footage showed the student, dressed in a grey kurta, black trousers, and a skullcap, climbing over the counter to take the money. 

Initially, he claimed to have taken only RM5, but later admitted to stealing RM749. When asked to return the money, he produced RM718, saying RM31 had been used to repay a debt to a friend.

Nur Liyana, who has run the canteen since 2024, said previous incidents of missing money had occurred but went unreported due to lack of evidence. 

This time, her staff lodged a police report. Jasin District Police Chief Superintendent Lee Robert confirmed the report and said investigations are ongoing. 

Nur Liyana stressed that such incidents should not happen in schools and vowed to ensure transparency in handling the matter.
