Former Perlis Chief Minister, Azlan Man, has been accused of submitting false travel expense claims worth RM1.8 million to the UK and charged with five counts of fraud. The charges claim that between 2013 and 2017.
Perlis Chief Minister’s strange claims
Azlan submitted claims for return flight tickets, hotel accommodation, and transportation costs in London, despite not travelling to the UK. The alleged offences were committed while he was the Chief Minister of Perlis, and he pleaded not guilty to all charges at the Kangar Sessions Court.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 Section 18 was used to charge him, carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and a fine not less than five times the amount of the false claims or RM10,000, whichever is higher. The case will be mentioned again on May 10. The Malaysian public is urged to report any suspected cases of corruption or abuse of power to the authorities to combat graft in the country.
