Gardener Loses RM110K in Facebook Car Scam, Police Investigating

A 55-year-old gardener lost RM110,840 in an online car purchase scam after responding to a Facebook ad for a used Toyota Vios priced at RM49,000. 

Gardener Loses RM110K 

He made 17 payments to nine bank accounts for deposits and registration before realising the vehicle didn’t exist. Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman confirmed the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. 

The victim filed a report yesterday. Authorities urge the public to verify bank accounts using Semak Mule and install the Whoscall app to avoid falling victim to similar scams.
