1 min read

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24: The Home Ministry will table a policy paper in August proposing amendments to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma). Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Section 13, covering bailable and non-bailable offences, is under review. “Currently, 73 offences allow for detention under Sosma. We intend to remove at least 13 offences from this list,” he told the Dewan Rakyat. Engagement sessions with stakeholders are ongoing to refine the amendments. On Jelutong MP RSN Rayer’s suggestion for a special Sosma court, Saifuddin said the ministry is open to proposals that improve the law’s implementation.
