KUALA LUMPUR – Pro-Anwar website Harapandaily has published a supposedly critical comparison between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, questioning calls to replace the current leadership.
According to the analysis, Terengganu’s GDP per capita rose only 8.6% between 2017 and 2024, far behind states like Penang (48.7%) and Sarawak (46.3%). State revenue also fell 7% from 2018 to 2025, making Terengganu the only state to record a decline. The report further noted Terengganu’s heavy reliance on federal transfers, with 87% of revenue coming from Putrajaya.
Economic Record
In contrast, Harapandaily highlighted Anwar’s national achievements: 6.3% economic growth in 2025, inflation at 1.6%, minimum wage raised to RM1,700, civil service pay up 15%, and RM285.2 billion in approved investments. The portal argued that replacing a performing prime minister with a leader whose state economy lags would ultimately harm Malaysians.
