PUTRAJAYA: Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu wants ministry staff members living in landed properties to start cultivating their own vegetables as a proactive measure against potential global food supply disruptions.
He said the initiative was a modern revival of the “buku hijau” (green book) campaign introduced during the era of former premier Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.
Economoney?
Meanwhile, locals were urged to eat ubi kayu by the Speaker of the house.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was served cassava at the open house hosted by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul, following his suggestion that cassava be considered an alternative carbohydrate amid concerns over rice supply. The proposal sparked debate, with some comparing it to food commonly eaten during the Emergency and Japanese occupation periods.
No Raya-Raya…
Anwar has ordered all government agencies, government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies not to hold Hari Raya Aidilfitri open houses this year.
He said this was due to the economic effects of the ongoing Middle East conflict, adding that the number of trips abroad should also be reduced.
Remarks
Seriously, nothing is wrong in telling people to plant their veges, eat ubi kayu or don’t hold Raya open houses. But it gives a very negative perceptions. Personally, I would plant my own things if I could afford a landed property with a large amount of land.
I do not own a house. Alas! But I think a government should step away from sound bites that could irritate the general public. Instead of saying these things, they should campaign for the people who do plant veges at home. How? Check TikTok or Facebook reels and YouTube.
Let’s eat ubi kayu
These are people who do not have to hear mi sisters speak in how to survive and in a rough world. Right? By the way, it’s not only about ubi, think of sweet potato. 🍠 I love them.
No open house to save money? Or economy bad? Which is which? Legit question. Tell me billions and almost a trillion perhaps is invested lately but no money? Am sure the confusion runs deep.
Malaysians are fond of Raya open houses by agencies. Denied of the fun this year, they may not forget it soon. I do not go for open houses, unless they are organised by the corporate world.
