Overloaded Heavy Vehicles Blamed for Road Damage, Says Nanta

Overloaded heavy vehicles are the primary cause of road damage, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. He revealed that the Works and Transport Ministries are working to address overloading, which reduces road lifespan by up to 50%.

During Aidilfitri traffic monitoring, Nanta praised agencies’ readiness to handle increased highway use, as up to 2.77 million vehicles are expected daily. Initiatives include smart lane activation, enhanced toll services, and additional parking. 

The government announced a 50% toll discount for Aidilfitri, with RM19.69 million compensation for concessionaires. Nanta reaffirmed the government’s focus on road maintenance and quick emergency response.
