Nasi kandar, a beloved Malaysian dish, has recently sparked controversy after Indonesian Masterchef winner Fani introduced her own version at her new restaurant. Fani claims her nasi kandar, made with fresh spices instead of powdered ones, offers more flavor.

However, her comments about the original Malaysian dish being “powdered and sandy” have not been well received. Despite maintaining the traditional “gravy flood” style, her version lacks the variety of side dishes typical of Malaysian stalls. 

Popular YouTuber Boengkoes praised Fani’s dish, but many viewers disagreed, criticizing the runny gravy and limited side options.
