Malaysia has reported nearly 100 influenza clusters nationwide, prompting school closures just weeks before 400,000 students sit for their SPM exams. Selangor leads with 174 clusters, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (103), and Johor (51).
Influenza Surges Prompting School Closure
Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said mask-wearing remains optional but encouraged, especially for symptomatic individuals. The Ministry of Health outlined six preventive steps for schools, including symptom checks, hygiene education, and timely reporting to health authorities.
Temporary closures may be considered if outbreaks persist. Dr Dzulkefly stressed targeted interventions and urged parents to keep sick children home to curb further spread.
