The Ministry of Home Affairs confirms that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have opened investigation papers related to statements involving two members of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) party that contain racial elements.
Investigation towards Hadi Awang
The investigation papers were opened against the President of the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS). Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who is also a Member of Parliament for Marang, as well as PAS Youth Chief for Penang’s Permatang Pauh constituency. The next person on the list is Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan. Hadi Awang is being investigated for alleging that non-Muslim and non-Bumiputera groups are the cause of corruption in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Fawwaz is being accused of defaming non-Muslims. The investigation is being conducted under Section 505(C) of the Penal Code, which pertains to the intention to incite or possibly incite any group or race to commit an offence against another group or race. The investigation against the two lawmakers is also being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the misuse of network facilities or network services.
