Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry has clarified that Apple’s iPhone 16, currently unsellable in the country due to local component requirements, may still be imported for personal use. Travelers, flight crews, or courier services can bring in up to two units, with applicable taxes paid, as personal belongings that are not for resale. Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif noted that around 9,000 units entered Indonesia between August and October 2024. While these devices bypass the 35% local content (TKDN) rule, commercial sales remain prohibited until Apple fulfills its investment and certification commitments, according to Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
