Jobless Man Jailed 35 Years for Murder of Roti Canai Cook

PETALING JAYA, Oct 2 2026 – A jobless man was sentenced to 35 years in prison and 12 strokes of the rotan by the Tawau High Court after pleading guilty to killing a roti canai cook three years ago.

Ridzuan Ahmad Zaini Logan, 37, admitted to killing Sirlin Salleh, 36, in a bushy area at Kampung Pisang, Lahad Datu between 6am and 8am on Nov 14, 2023. Sirlin, a mother of five, was found half-naked by family members about 600m from her home. She was believed to have been attacked while walking to work.

A forensic examination revealed blunt force injuries to her head, slash wounds to her neck and defensive injuries to her hands. Prosecutors described the killing as “gruesome, cruel and inhumane,” alleging she was sexually assaulted before being dragged through bushes and killed.

Judicial Commissioner Steve Ritikos imposed the sentence effective from Ridzuan’s arrest on Nov 17, 2023, rejecting defence pleas for a lighter term.
