NEW: JPN Refutes Claims 54,000 Chinese Getting Citizenship in Malaysia

The JPN refuted claims that there are 54,000 pending citizenship applications from Chinese citizens. NRD clarified that the figure refers to applications between 2017 and 2022 under various constitutional provisions and diverse backgrounds. According to NRD records up to July 31, 2023, only 45 individuals from China were granted Malaysian citizenship under Article 19(1) related to country of origin.

The clarification came in response to a viral video alleging pending applications and potential “DAP voters.” The NRD stated that Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution’s commitment to evaluating 10,000 applications this yea is aimed at providing justice to long-pending applicants.
