Keow Wee Loong: Successful Climb of Merdeka118

1 min read

Malaysian photographer Keow Wee Loong, known for his rooftopping photography, asserts that he was the first to conquer the towering Merdeka 118 building in Kuala Lumpur.

Despite recent reports of successful but dangerous climbs, Keow, age 33, remains tight-lipped about when exactly he scaled the unfinished 679m skyscraper. However, in April of last year, he shared a photo on social media of himself at the summit, barefoot and triumphantly raising one hand.

The Merdeka118 Climb

“I spent 48 hours in the building because of security and I survived by drinking water left by construction workers,” Keow told a Singapore news site of his Merdeka building attempt. Back then the security was much higher, (as compared to) the time the Russians climbed it when the building was (already) completed and there was less (construction) work.”
