Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has called on the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General to disclose what became of the 2,097 arrested police personnel named in a Home Ministry parliamentary reply, Free Malaysia Today reported on Thursday (Oct 29).

Lim, the Pakatan Harapan MP for Kepong, urged Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail and Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar to state how many of the officers and personnel were charged, convicted or dismissed from the force.

Home Ministry on Arrested Police Personnel

According to Bernama, the ministry said in a written reply published on the Parliament portal that 2,097 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers and personnel were arrested between 2021 and August 2026. The reply was given to a question from Lim.

Of the total, 1,551 arrests were for drug-related offences, all made under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Another 64 were for robbery, while 482 personnel were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The yearly figures for drug arrests were 357 in 2021, 248 in 2022, 245 in 2023, 310 in 2024, 256 in 2025 and 135 from January to August this year. MACC arrests stood at 77, 86, 129, 53 and 87 for 2021 to 2025, and 50 so far in 2026. Robbery arrests ranged from 10 to 13 a year.

Malay Mail noted that the reply did not give figures on how many of those arrested were prosecuted, convicted or dismissed.

Kajang Cryptocurrency Robbery Case

Lim had also asked about 12 police personnel suspected of robbing Chinese nationals of about RM200,000 in cryptocurrency at Country Heights, Kajang, on Feb 5. Bernama reported the ministry as saying PDRM had opened an investigation paper and that investigations under Section 395 of the Penal Code were ongoing.

Malay Mail reported that the raid on a rented bungalow was carried out under the pretext of busting an illegal online scam operation, and that a 31-year-old Chinese national alleged he and seven friends were coerced into transferring digital assets. The officers were remanded and later released on police bail, it said.

Lim Wants Arrested Police Personnel Status Revealed

According to FMT, Lim said the numbers worked out to more than one police officer or personnel member being arrested every day over five years and eight months, and described this as a severe blow to the force’s integrity.

“The police are supposed to arrest criminals, not become criminals themselves,” he was quoted as saying.

Lim also contrasted the Kajang case, which FMT said remained under investigation more than eight months on, with that of Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency chief Shuhaily Zain, who was charged in the Sepang magistrates’ court on Oct 21 with assaulting two policemen, 23 days after an incident at KLIA. He said the IGP and AG should explain the difference in investigation timelines.
