Malaysia’s natural resources and climate change ministry confirmed that Kuala Lumpur is generally safe, despite a recent sinkhole incident that claimed the life of a 48-year-old Indian national. A task force investigating the Masjid India sinkhole cited human activities, weather, and erosion of reclaimed land as contributing factors. A special technical report on the city’s geological structure will be prepared within three months. The ministry emphasized the need for ongoing monitoring of underground structures, with data from the Greater KL Geology Subsurface Mapping and the 3DKL project being used to assess and improve the city’s infrastructure safety.
